Client Spotlight: Cakeology by Erika, LLC

South Florida Client: Erika Alonso

Full-time mom and entrepreneur Erika Alonso found a way to turn her baking hobby into a business during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, she established Cakeology by Erika, LLC with the desire to offer the most delicious cakes in Miami while also taking care of her family. Erika chose her business name alluding to what she describes as the science behind creating flavorful and delectable cakes using only the best ingredients and her family’s recipes.

During this year’s Women’s History Month, Prospera held an intimate event where 10 female entrepreneurs had the opportunity to share their entrepreneurial stories, describe their businesses, and receive feedback from fellow entrepreneurs as well as some of Prospera’s community partners. Erika was one of these women, which further reminded her of the value of establishing a close relationship with Prospera. Consequently, she immediately scheduled her first consulting appointment with our organization.

Since then, Prospera has granted Cakeology advanced services to analyze the business’ accounting procedures and streamline its bookkeeping practices. Moreover, Erika has been working closely with her Prospera business development consultant to lighten the administrative burden of the business, so she can focus more on other aspects. In doing so, Prospera has helped Erika identify the back-office functions that were taking up most of her time, rank them in order of importance, and strategically optimize her business plan to gradually automate, reduce or delegate duties and focus more on the sustainability and growth of Cakeology by Erika.

In describing her journey through motherhood and entrepreneurship, Erika shares that she and her children have become bakers, models, photographers, deliverers, community managers, and much more… while supplying delicious cakes for all types of occasions to their clients. In the future, Erika hopes to increase Cakeology’s operational capacity and eventually open a shop. At Prospera, we admire Erika’s commitment to her business and family. We celebrate the determination, hard work, and resilience of mothers who, like Erika, choose the path of entrepreneurship to keep their families afloat and create a better future for their children and communities.
